Rabbitohs Coming To Maroubra
Adrian Bo here on Bunnerong Road in Maroubra to talk about the latest updates regarding the new development at Heffron Park, which will be known as the Heffron Centre. Now Heffron Park was named after Bob Heffron, the New South Wales premier from 1959 to 1964, and it already hosts a large number of Eastern Suburbs sporting clubs encompassing netball, cricket, touch football, rugby union and rugby league, Oz tag and soccer as well, including also a 4.2km cycling track and the Heffron Pedal Park Kids Bike Track which opened about 7 years ago. It also includes a synthetic soccer pitch, a tennis centre opened last year that now has over 100 members, and also a gym which is of course known as the Des Renford Leisure Centre. So plans for the Heffron Centre will include it becoming the home of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, my favourite club, where the club will move their community and high performance centre of Redfern, including having an NRL standard training field which will have fan and visitor areas to watch training sessions.
The project will also include a Gymnastics Centre and an indoor facility with 2 sports halls to host community basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball and futsal. There will be plenty of spectator seating as well as an open plaza featuring a cafe and lots of seating. $20 Million has been raised via the State and Federal Governments of the approximate $58 million being spent on the project and will employ over 200 people in the construction phase, over 60 in the operational phase. The Heffron Centre will benefit from both rooftop solar as well as rain and stormwater collection, as per the designs put together by leading architects, Co-Op Studio. At this stage it is anticipated that construction will start around mid 2021 and the projected completion date is around the back end of 2022. Bottom line is that it will be an awesome local community facility that will have the Rabbitohs in the heart of Maroubra as well as providing fantastic new facilities for local residents to enjoy.
Once this is completed I’d love to know if there’s a better park and facilities anywhere else in Australia because I’m not sure there is and this will definitely contribute to real estate prices continuing to move ahead. The plans for this project are currently on public exhibition until this Thursday. By 2022, the master plan for Heffron Park created in 2004, should finally be complete. In the meantime, please enjoy Heffron Park which is already a wonderful place but is only going to get better now that it’s gonna house and support the mighty South Sydney Rabbitohs, my favourite team. All the best, and always remember your home is worth more with Adrian Bo.
